Player FAQs

Welcome to MyPointPool.com, home of the Point Pool. We believe that the Point Pool is, quite simply, the best football pool around. It focuses on the games – making watching those games fun. It is based on a simple concept – making it necessary to spend only a few minutes per week on analysis and wagering. It gets more compelling as the season and playoffs progresses – keeping more players engaged and interested for a longer period of time. And it lasts right through the Big Game – making every playoff game interesting and fun to watch even if your team is long dead and buried.

But in the end, we know of only one way for people to really understand the fun and compelling nature of the Point Pool: try it. We have free pools you can join and play for prizes we put up. We have very moderately priced entry fee-based pools with prizes that the entry fees pay for. We allow you to set up you’re a private pool for your friends – as few as 20 – for a small user fee. So give the Point Pool a try and find out for yourself why it is so much fun.

What is the first step?

  • The first step is to register on one of our blogs (GridironBlogs.com) OR the MyPointPool.com web site.
  • Registration involves providing an email address plus selecting a user name.
  • Once registered, you will receive an email with a password and a link to confirm your registration. Once confirmed, you can change the password to whatever you like.

Will I start receiving spam once you have my email address?

  • ABSOLUTELY NOT. We are built around a unique, new football pool – the Point Pool. We are 100% confident that once you try the Point Pool, you will love its fun and strategy just as the players who have been playing privately for 25 years love those parts of it.
  • Because we are a new concept, our goal is to both provide the game and to build your trust in us. Our privacy policy is very simple and clear: 1) We do not spam. We only contact you with information about the pools – not to sell you things. 2) We do not sell, lease, rent or transfer any personal information – including email addresses – to any third parties. Period.

OK, I’m registered. Now what?

  • Once you are registered, you are free to post and participate on our blogs.
  • You will also be free to register for our pools. There are basically four types of pools:
    • Public pools with entry fees – These are open to anyone at a set entry fee.
    • Public pools that are free – These are open to anyone at no cost.
    • Private pools with entry fees – These are open to invitees at a set entry fee.
    • Private pools that are free – These are open to invitees for free.

What is the difference between public and private pools?

  • A public pool is generally run by us and is open to all comers. It may also be run by a large organization such as a radio station or a large sports bar (those may also be private – it is up to the pool admin).
  • A private pool is one run by individuals or organizations for their own friends, members or clients. You need to be invited in order to join a private pool. With private pools, the pool administrator has approval rights and if you have not been invited, you will be rejected as a player.
  • An entry fee-based pool generally allows a player to take more than one spot (although there may be an upper limit at some point).
  • A free pool is usually promotional in nature and generally has a limit of one spot per player.

How do I choose the pool I’m going to join?

  • If you are joining a public pool, simply choose the pool name and description from our list and sign up. You can also visit some of our blogs – the NFL team blog for your favorite team, for instance – and see what is available there.
  • If you are joining a private pool, the pool administrator decides how to invite you so exactly what information you’ve gotten is not known to us. For instance, you may have received a link in your email invitation that will take you to the right place to register (the right blog). Or the email may simply have had the name of the pool you are invited to join in which case you can select the pool name from the list of available pools and register. If you are still stuck, forward to us the email invitation and we will point you in the right direction.

Can I trust whatever invitation I received?

  • ABSOLUTELY NOT. Remember: MyPointPool.com does NOT collect entry fees or distribute prizes for private pools; the pool administrator does that.
  • If you have received an invitation to join a private pool for an entry fee, you should have some connection to the pool administrator. For instance, the pool admin should be a friend, a trusted acquaintance or friend of someone you know and trust.
  • You should also know exactly what the prize structure is and how it is to be paid out. Again, having some trusted connection to the pool administrator is strongly recommended before joining a private entry fee-based pool.
  • You should know that pool administrators have two strict rules they must adhere to:
    • They may not solicit participation through spam or mass media
    • They may not profit from running a pool
  • If you know of a pool administrator breaking either of these rules, please contact us so we may investigate.

How do I pay for my spot?

  • If you have joined one of our public entry fee-based pools, you can pay via PayPal or Google Checkout. The prizes for each pool are posted on the web site through the links to the left.
  • If you have joined a private pool, you will receive instructions from the pool administrator.

OK, I’ve joined a pool. Now what?

  • Once you’ve joined a pool, you will be assigned a "schedule number" between 1 and 100. With the schedule number, you will also be able to review your schedule of 2 games per week for the entire NFL regular season.
  • You will also be assigned the 50 points that you use to wager with.
  • You will also have a "Player Home Page" made available. This is your home page; the place from which you perform all of your pool functions. You should begin exploring and familiarizing yourself with the various links and function pages (game odds, make a wager, etc.).
  • Prior to the first game of the season (September 4, 2008), you will need to make your first week’s wagers. Your minimum wager for the first week is 3 points per game. The web site will not allow you to break any wagering rules.

Can I take more than one spot?

  • Absolutely! In fact, we recommend it although it is completely up to you.
  • When you take multiple spots, you are guaranteed a different schedule number for each spot you take.
  • That rule applies whether you take a couple of spots in a single pool or several spots in different pools.
  • That means a different unique schedule of two games per week for every spot you take. That means different results and a different experience with every spot you have.

Top

Can I join a pool after the season has started?

  • Absolutely, yes. It is not a problem to miss even 3 or 4 weeks (unlike other pools). It may even benefit you (you may miss a game that would have hurt you).

Top

You say I can join late but will I have any chance of winning?

  • Absolutely, yes! The Point Pool is incredibly volatile and joining late is not necessarily a problem. Joining a pool as late as 4 or 5 weeks into the season is really not a big deal. From early October on, your chances begin to diminish more quickly as the weeks pass.
  • Mathematically, you can go from 50 to 1600 in five weeks – even more with the underdog odds. Although you need guts and a cooperative schedule to do that, it has been done. In 2008, a player turned just over 1,062 points into just over 41,910 in three games – and he LOST one of them!

Top

If I join late, am I penalized?

  • No. Once you’ve joined, if you miss a week you are penalized, but not if you join late.

Top

If I join different pools through different blogs, won’t it get confusing?

  • No. We allow you to manage all of your spots through your home page. Also, we use a single log-in system. That means when you log-in on a blog, you are logged in on the web site and vice versa.
  • This system also means one user name and one password for all of your spots.
