Official PointPool Rules
1. Pool Objective:
1.1. The primary objective is to have the highest number of points after the Big Game.
1.2. A secondary objective is to have the highest number of correct picks (this is an optional prize).
2. Pool Format – At the beginning of the season, you receive two things:
2.1. 50 points – These are used to wager with.
2.2. Schedule Number – For 2008, there are 100 unique schedule numbers available. The schedule number dictates which two games per week you are assigned and on which you must wager. Each schedule is created subject to the following guidelines:
2.2.1. Games are assigned to each schedule spot using a proprietary, rules-based system that guarantees random results.
2.2.2. Each schedule is assigned every NFL team at least once (most teams are assigned 2-4 times).
2.2.3. Each of the 100 schedules of two games per week are unique.
3. Sunlight Provisions – The following procedures insure fair play.
3.1. Schedules are created in adherence to guidelines of Rules 2.2.1 – 2.2.3.
3.2. Schedule numbers are assigned randomly.
3.3. All schedules are available for review on the web site and through the blogs.
3.4. No wagers may be viewed until that week’s deadline has passed.
3.5. Once the wager deadline has passed, all wagers become available and may be printed out.
4. Wagering Rules:
4.1. There are two wagering rules:
4.1.1. Minimum Wager Rule – You must meet the minimum wager requirement (see Rule 4.2).
4.1.2. Maximum Wager Rule – You cannot wager more points, in total, than you have in any week.
4.2. Minimum Wagers
4.2.1. Regular Season = 5% per game.
4.2.2. Playoffs:
4.2.2.1. Wild Card Games = 10%
4.2.2.2. Divisional Games = 15%
4.2.2.3. Championship Games = 20%
4.2.2.4. Big Game = No Minimum Wager
4.3. Wager Deadline – The wager deadline is typically 1 hour before the first game of the weekend is played. Note that even if you do NOT have the first game (which could be, for instance, on a Thursday night), your wagers must still be in before the deadline. This rule insures that no one has the advantage of seeing someone else’s wagers before having to submit his/her own. The official deadline time is posted each week and should be checked by the user.
4.4. No Wager Penalty – If you do not wager by the deadline, you lose minimum wagers on each game you were supposed to wager on.
5. Scoring Rules:
5.1. If your pick wins the game, your wager value gets added to your point total.
5.2. If your pick loses the game, your wager amount is subtracted from the total.
5.3. If your pick ties, you do not win or lose points – it is a "wash".
5.4. The wager value is calculated by multiplying the team odds times your wager amount.
5.5. Team Odds
5.5.1. Favorites receive 1:1 odds – wager 10 to win 10
5.5.2. Underdogs of 3 points or less receive 1:1 odds – wager 10 to win 10
