Administrator FAQs

Welcome to MyPointPool.com, home of the Point Pool. We believe that the Point Pool is, quite simply, the best football pool around. It focuses on the games – making watching those games fun. It is based on a simple concept – making it necessary to spend only a few minutes per week on analysis and wagering. It gets more compelling as the season and playoffs progresses – keeping more players engaged and interested for a longer period of time. And it lasts right through the Big Game – making every playoff game interesting and fun to watch even if your team is long dead and buried.

But in the end, we know of only one way for people to really understand the fun and compelling nature of the Point Pool: try it. We have free pools you can join and play for prizes we put up. We have very moderately priced entry fee-based pools with prizes that the entry fees pay for. We allow you to set up you’re a private pool for your friends – as few as 20 – for a small user fee. So give the Point Pool a try and find out for yourself why it is so much fun.

What is a pool administrator?

  • Any person who wants to do what little organizational work there is in setting up a Point Pool can become a pool administrator.
  • The work required consists mainly of naming the pool and inviting people to join – your players.
  • These players could be family members, friends (old and new), co-workers, pals from the local sports bar – pretty much anyone you like.

Can a private organization sign up?

  • Absolutely, yes. Competition is always fun and the Point Pool is a great social-networking, community-based football pool.
  • Because of the social nature of this pool, it is perfect for organizations such as fraternities, social clubs, business associations, fan clubs and more.

Can it be used as a fundraising tool?

  • Absolutely. In fact, that is one of MPP’s most popular uses – as a great, new fundraising tool.
  • With no upfront fees, little work besides recruiting players, no ongoing costs and no ongoing work, MPP puts the FUN back in fundraising – especially for the fundraisers.
  • Contact us directly for more information on how you can put this powerful tool to work for your organization.

To use it as a fundraising tool, do I need to be a registered charity?

  • No. Any organization can use MPP as a fundraising tool. We collect the money and disburse it to your organization within a few weeks of the signup period closing. The only caveat is that you must be an organization – not an individual – for MPP to collect entry fees and disburse the funds.

What are the "customizable blogs" I see mentioned?

  • MyPointPool.com has formed a relationship with GridironBlogs.com to deliver our Point Pools to our users. The blog tie-in provides a way for players to socialize, trash talk, gloat or talk about stuff that has nothing to do with football. We have forums and chat capability as part of the blogs.
  • Most importantly, the blogs provide access to all of the Point Pool functionality you need to play. Because the Point Pool is such a great social pool – inspiring talk each and every week about what happened last week, who has which games this week and what the wagers will be – we decided to run it right through the socializing tool of the 21st century: blogs, forums and chat rooms.
  • The blogs also offer organizations with pools of 500 or more players advertising space – prime real estate that can be used for promoting your own events, generating advertising revenue or trading it off to sponsors for pool prizes.

How do I get a blog for my pool?

  • The easiest way is by signing up enough people. Contact us for more information about getting your own blog.

Top

Do I need a blog?

  • No. All of the necessary pool functions are performed through the MyPointPool.com web site whether you have a blog or not. We only offer the blog because it is such a great way to socialize and communicate.

How many players are allowed in a pool?

  • There is no maximum limit. 20 is our minimum number of individuals.
  • Large pools (typically 200 players or more) can also be tailored to take advantage of our unique, multi-dimensional prize structure that allows players to compete in several different ways from a single schedule spot.

How much does it cost for an individual to run a pool?

  • The private pool cost is $5 per person with a minimum fee of $100. The pool administrator pays that fee when initially creating the pool. The players that subsequently join do not pay on the web site.
  • The $100 minimum pays for the first 20 players you sign up. If you have more players sign up, you simply purchase however many additional player spots you need.
  • If you are going to charge your friends an entry fee, we simply recommend you build the $5 into the fee. For instance, if you want to charge $50 per person, simply charge $55 and tell everyone that $5 goes towards pool administration.

How much does it cost for an organization to run a pool?

  • We keep 15% of the entry fees we collect for pools run by non-profits.
  • We keep 20% of the entry fees we collect for other organizations.
  • Those fees include credit card processing, the blog and all of the web tools you need to successfully run your pool. There are absolutely no hidden costs.

What do I have to do for my pool?

  • The only things you must do are invite people and approve them when they sign up. If we are collecting entry fees for your organization, you don’t even need to approve the players – they are automatically approved when they pay.
  • The web site does ALL administrative work. We post the game odds, open and close wagering, collect the wagers, update the results and make all of the information available to your players.
  • If you have a blog, you will also be able to use that for communicating with your players and making the pool as much fun as possible.

How do I control who can join my pool?

  • As an individual or an organization running a free (promotional) pool, you are required to approve any players that join your pool. If you see someone you don’t know join up, you can contact them and find out how they found about about your pool (it could be the friend of a friend) and decide whether to allow them to join.
  • As an organization charging an entry fee, you shouldn’t care who joins as long as they pay the fee. However, each pool admin has the ability to disapprove players even after they have joined. It is a simple process that is accessed through your pool administrator panel.

Can people take multiple spots?

  • Absolutely! In fact, we encourage it (although it is up to you). Under our unique system, you get assigned a different schedule number for each spot you take; whether within a single pool or across multiple pools. That means a different unique schedule of two games per week for every spot you take, and THAT means different results and a different experience with every spot you take.

Can I start a new PointPool after the season has started?

  • Yes. We will be glad to arrange late-starting PointPools – no problem.

Top

How do I invite people?

  • There are several ways. As a pool administrator, you can invite people through your web site administrator control panel, you can invite them from the blog we provide or you can invite them via your own email program.
  • After being invited, they can register through your blog or through the web site. We have a common log-in functionality built in between the blogs and the web site so whether someone registers on any blog or the MyPointPool web site, they can log in through any of our blogs or the web site and access all of the point pools they have joined from one location.
  • Once they register, you receive notification of a new registrant and go to your sys admin control panel to approve or reject them.

Top

How do I manage my pool?

  • Once you have created your pool, you will have access to all the tools necessary to manage your pool. You set the pool options and then send out invites to your players right through the blog – it’s very simple and you can always contact us for help.

Who sets up any entry requirements and/or prizes?

  • Each individual pool administrator. We simply charge a per user fee for the use of our web site and the tools we provide. We do not collect entry fees or distribute prizes for pools run by individuals. That is why we have certain administrator rules.
  • This is a game for strategy and luck; this is NOT a gambling web site. We expect you to adhere to our guidelines.
  • Please refer to the Terms of Service pages for more information.

Are there regulations guiding the conduct of administrators?

  • Absolutely, yes. We provide a very low cost service for our users but fully recognize that some people try to use the flexible structure of the web site for fraudulent purposes. We have two primary guidelines that each administrator must adhere or risk revocation their administrative privileges and the closure of their pool. They are:
    • YOU MAY NOT Solicit Players Through Spam Or Other Mass Media Without Our Approval
    • YOU MAY NOT Operate A Pool For Profit
